Swimming

We believe that swimming is an essential skill that all children should acquire before they leave primary school.

To ensure that we give all of our children the best possible chance to meet the three national curriculum outcomes, we offer all Year 5 children a block of swimming lessons in the autumn and spring terms.  We also offer a further block of lessons to those Year 6 children have not met the required outcomes at the end of the Summer Term.

The three national curriculum outcomes

Each pupil is required to be able to do the following:

  • Perform safe self-rescue in different water based situations
  • Swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
  • Use a range of strokes effectively, for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke.

We use our local swimming pool at Moulton Leisure Centre. It has a 25m pool with a movable floor and an entrance ramp to ensure it is accessible to all.  All swimming lessons are overseen by a fully qualified swimming teacher with an additional lifeguard on duty at the poolside, both are fully trained as lifesavers.  Lessons are also taught by members of the school staff, who are also trained in delivering school swimming.

If you want to book additional lessons to help your child learn this vital lifesaving skill, then you can book private lessons for all levels of swimming ability at Moulton Leisure Centre by following the link below. https://www.everyoneactive.com/centre/moulton-leisure-centre/
