Google Classrooms – Some troubleshooting info.

Some answers to common questions or problems you may have working with Google Classrooms and related activities.

Joining Classroom link code problems.

If you try to join a class using the code given by the school and it tells you it is invalid, this may be due to Classrooms trying to log you in using the wrong account.

If you already have your own Google account, for gmail etc, this may take priority over the one you have logged your child in with.

Click the box to the right hand side of the screen (see pic below).

From the drop down list that appears click on your childs school email address.

This will most likely open another tab or window in your browser.  Click on this tab.

Now from google classrooms you should be able to use the code.

If this still fails, please do get in touch with the school.

Problems accessing class work and homework from Google Classroom.

This can be due to a similar problem at above.  If Google Classroom has picked up the wrong google account, it may allow you to see what work is set, but you won’t have permission to do the work.

Ensure the correct account is accessing the classroom by clicking the coloured circle with an initial in it and choose from the drop down list the account you want to use for this classroom.

This may result in a new Tab opening, This is the one you now want to work from.


Some reasons for Videos not playing are:

Your antivirus program may include Parental Controls. 

These are sometimes set to block videos from Social Media categories.  It might be worth checking the programs instructions to see if this is the case, or it may need you to allow Google/ Youtube videos.  It may be the only action is to disable the parental controls while your child is working, but ensure you re-enable them once they are done for the day.

If its not obvious, it might be worth dropping a support email to the software companies support people.

Other things, it might be your browser is not showing up to date information.  Make sure you use Google Chrome as this is the software that Google Classrooms works best on.

Also try clearing the browsing data cache.  To do this on a computer:-

(before doing the below, be aware it may log you out of other websites, so you may need to be sure you know your passwords to those.)

On your computer, open Chrome.
At the top right, click the vertical three dots (More) .
Click More tools. Clear browsing data.
At the top, choose a time range. To delete everything, select All time.
Next to “Cookies and other site data” and “Cached images and files,” check the boxes.
Click Clear data.

Changing the title of a Google Doc (works for other types too)

Once you start working on your document in Google Docs, just click where it says “Untitled Document” and start typing.  The name will change ones you click somewhere else in your document.


Adobe Weekly Plan – appears small or cannot click links:

Some of the weekly plans are now links, and must be downloaded to your computer to open correctly to allow you to click the links in them.
